The story is set during the decline of the Mayan civilization and revolves around Jaguar Paw (Rudy Youngblood), a hunter from a peaceful village. When a group of ruthless Mayan warriors led by Zero Wolf (Raoul Trujillo) attacked Jaguar Paw's village, he hid his pregnant wife and young son in a deep pit before being captured.
Jaguar Paw and the captured villagers are taken on a dangerous journey through the jungle to a Mayan city where they will be sacrificed to the gods. Along the way, Jaguar Paw witnesses brutal violence and human sacrifice, and tries his best to escape his captors and return to his family.
When innocent people are taken to a Mayan city, Jaguar Paw must face countless challenges and dangers, including ferocious animals, rival tribes, and harsh environments. He uses the survival skills he has accumulated to evade his pursuers and find his way back to the village.
