The first part of the mecha anime series Full Metal Panic has a confusing tone that cannot decide whether it is a comedy anime or an action anime. While it was possible to perform both tasks, the program's effort toward it was too polarizing. The mecha anime Full Metal Panic: The Second Raid removed the humorous premise of high school, and focused on the development between Sagara and Chidori.

Forcing Sagara and Chidori apart created a tension that was not present last season. Viewers can bet much higher for the sequel. The dynamic between the two main characters also shines brighter even though they are not together. Betting it all on strengths was a risk for the Full Metal Panic: The Second Raid series, but it paid off amazingly.

The Macross brand is pretty silly. The mecha anime series chronicles the conflicts between humans and alien forces. Resolution is almost always related to music usage, but Macross 7 pushes that to the extreme. Nekki Basara is an honest pacifist and rock star. Instead of fighting the aliens, he flies into battle and sings catchy rock music that forces the fighters to shift their focus.

This is a change from the relatively severe tone of the previous Macross anime series. There's a lot of energy in it, even if most of Macross 7 is just songs. It manages to capture the unsettling feel of the anime's melodrama, cementing a unique experience within the franchise.

The production and release of the mecha anime Planet With almost no fanfare. Fans of Satoshi Mizukami's manga are excited, even if they prefer Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer or Spirit Circle adaptations. Planet With's trailer doesn't help the success it has either. The 3D CGI looks confusing and the premise seems ordinary. So no one expected it to be successful.

The stereotypical premise of Planet With gradually unfolds. It honors the implications of modern manga and anime writing but also subverts many of them. The final product is a surprisingly rewarding anime for viewers willing to enjoy.

Director Yoshiyuki Tomino achieved gold with Mobile Suit Gundam, but much of the mecha anime's success came from its toy sales. Space Runaway Ideon is a brand new mecha anime franchise of his, so it possesses a lot of ambition, but also room for failure. It became a departure from the Real Robot branch for which Gundam is known.

Despite those factors, this mecha anime still captures the hearts of fans of the mechanical genre. Both the mecha anime series and the ending of Space Runaway Ideon: Be Invoked were uncompromising works that pushed the anti-war message to the extreme. This makes anime an essential work for fans of mechanical anime.

SSSS.Gridman is a mecha anime that pays homage to various tokusatsu attributes popular in Japan. The highlight of this mecha anime is to recreate the realistic feel of tokusatsu shows. When a giant hero fights a monster in those shows, it's clear that they are heroes fighting in a model city.

SSSS.Gridman went to extreme lengths to reproduce the same feeling. The kaiju designs look like a person wearing a costume. It takes incredible commitment to replicate both the aesthetic and the direction. Even the mecha designs are perfectly standard in the super sentai sub-genre. Fans were really skeptical about this mecha anime's ability to capture the tokusatsu nature, but it successfully happened.
