Edo was a city that was once the birthplace of the vitality and ambition of samurai across the country. However, after the surrender of feudal Japan to powerful aliens known as "Amanto", those aspirations now seem impossible to realize. With the once-influential shogunate rebuilt into a puppet government, a new law was quickly passed banning all types of swords in public. Enter Gintoki Sakata, an eccentric platinum-haired man who always carries a wooden sword and maintains the status of a samurai despite the ban. As the founder of Yorozuya, a small business that specializes in running odd jobs, Gintoki often embarks on an effort to help others — though often in rather strange and unforeseen ways. 

Assisted by Shinpachi Shimura, a bespectacled boy who is said to be learning the ways of samurai; Kagura, a tomboy girl with superhuman strength and endless gluttony; and Sadaharu, their giant pet dog who likes to bite people in the head, Yorozuya encounters anything from alien royalty to brawls with local gangs in the ever-changing world of Edo.

  Since his father's death, the burden of providing for his family has fallen on Tanjirou Kamado's shoulders. Despite living in poverty on a remote mountain, the Kamado family was able to enjoy a relatively peaceful and happy life. On the way back, nightfall forces Tanjirou to take refuge in the house of a strange man, who warns him of the existence of carnivorous demons lurking in the forest at night. 

When he finally returns home the next day, he encounters a horrifying sight - his whole family has been massacred. To make matters worse, the only survivor is her sister Nezuko, who has been turned into a bloodthirsty demon. Immersed in rage and hatred, Tanjirou vows to avenge his family and stay by his only remaining brother's side. Together with the mysterious group calling himself the Demon Slaying Legion, Tanjirou will do whatever it takes to destroy the demons and protect the human remnants of his beloved sister.

  Dr. Kenzou Tenma, an elite neurosurgeon who has just gotten engaged to the daughter of his hospital director, is on his way up the ranks of the hospital. While preparing for someone's surgery, he receives a call from the hospital director asking him to transfer the patient and instead perform a life-saving brain surgery on a famous artist. His doctors, fiancée, and hospital director applauded his accomplishments; but because of an embolism a poor migrant worker died, leaving Dr. Tenma bitten by conscience. 

So when a similar situation occurs, Dr. Tenma stands his ground and chooses to operate on young Johan Liebert instead of the town's mayor. Unfortunately, this choice leads to serious ramifications for Dr. Tenma – losing his social status is one of them. However, with the mysterious deaths of the director and two other doctors, Dr. Tenma's position is restored. With no evidence to convict him, he was released and went on to achieve the position of hospital director. 

Nine years later, when Dr. Tenma saves a criminal's life, his past comes back to haunt him — once again, he must face the monster he operated on. He must now embark on a pursuit mission to make up for the devastation that has spread by the person he saved.
