Kim (boy) - ran south, chu (sister - went north, Luong- east had to walk until he reached a better labor camp, and had to say he was an orphan and not is allowed to give his real name, because if they catch one, they will not be able to catch the others. Here, the sisters continued to work hard and had to learn the "revolutionary" soldiers who hated the Duol (Vietnam) .Children were continuously propagated about the army.

Angkar holds all power, Angkar is the savior and the liberator of the poor people, Angkar's soldiers in the front lines are crushing the Vietnamese enemies, the glorious Cambodian friends for a long time.

Later, Loung was recruited as a child soldier for the Khmer Rouge. Luong learned to shoot guns and set traps, as well as make mines against the Vietnamese. The children here are continuously propagated to hate the Vietnamese, and they also eat more and are treated better than the other workers in the labor camps.

When Loung (the autobiographical character) was allowed to return to visit her home, her mother was killed, leaving the house empty and cold.

One day, Loung's camp is destroyed by Vietnamese shelling, forcing her to flee with other civilians. On the way, she reunited with her brother and sister and stayed one night in a field refugee camp run by the Vietnamese army. When the camp was attacked by the Khmer Rouge the next morning, they fled with protection from the Vietnamese army and headed to the jungle, where Loung was separated from his siblings and witnessed the mines. I have installed, causing casualties to many refugees. The three brothers were reunited in a Vietnam Red Cross relief camp on the border.

There Loung saw people beating a Khmer Rouge prisoner. She sees him as her father and remembers painful things that happened in her life. Loung dreams of his father being executed and buried in a mass grave. When she calls the man "Pa", the others leave immediately. Loung looked at the prisoner and then left. When the war ended, Loung reunited with his brothers. Years later, the children are now grown up and pray for their deceased loved ones at an ancient temple.

By executing, starving, by labor or forcing, the Khmer Rouge systematically killed nearly a quarter of the country's population.

The reunion of 6 brothers and sisters in a family of 3 boys and 3 girls after the death with 1,270 days (from April 17, 1975 to January 7, 1979) living under the Pol Pot regime speaks for itself. the catastrophe of a people before the Pol Pot genocide.
