Black Sails is a historical drama about pirates, but not the cheerful, rum-drinking Pirates of the Caribbean, but the fearless pirates. A prequel to Treasure Island, Black Sails is set in the early 1700s and revolves around the ruined life of Captain Flint (Toby Stephens) as the leader of a crew of straw heroes. He brings along Long John Silver (Luke Arnold) as a member of his crew, and together they engage in a massive battle for New Providence Island. Black Sails is often compared to Game of Thrones, and while it's not in the fantasy genre, there are many elements to this historical drama that fans will recognize and enjoy: from period setting, excellent characters, compelling storytelling and world-building, or some beautiful fight scenes.
