In the distant future, humanity was driven to extinction by giant beasts known as Klaxosaurs, forcing the surviving humans to take shelter in large fortress cities called the Plantations. The children who grew up here were trained to control giant machines called FranXX — the only weapon known to be effective against Klaxosaurs — in boy-girl pairs. Bred for the sole purpose of driving these machines, these children know nothing about the outside world and can only prove their existence by protecting their race.
