It is NHK's 21st taiga drama with a screenplay written by Ryota Kosawa ("Confidence Man JP", "Date", "Legal High") that portrays the life of Tokugawa Ieyasu (Matsumoto), the founder and first shogun of the Tokugawa shogunate.The plot revolves around Takechiyo (later Ieyasu Tokugawa) being born the son of a poor and helpless daimyo. Takechiyo lost his father in a war. He grew up in loneliness and away from his mother's arms. Takechiyo doesn't know what his future holds. He then has a dramatic encounter with young Nobunaga Oda.
