Genshiken depicts the lives of Otaku (Manga/anime fans in general). The story begins when student Kanji Sasahara is confused between choosing to join clubs during the new school year at university. He meets Kousaka with similar interests and joins them in Genshiken, the modern Japanese culture club. It is worth mentioning that the film does not try to advocate for anyone or an opinion about Otaku, but presents everything under the most objective lens possible. To do that, the story's development is largely recreated from the perspective of Saki, who is a very ordinary student who hates otaku but is reluctant to stay in the club.
