With the debut of producer Zack Snyders (Army of the Dead), it looks like the heist genre will have another renaissance, at least on Netflix. The popularity of the TV show, Heist also bodes well for the genre. As of right now, there hasn't been any real talk of season 2, but Netflix will likely wait and see how popular it becomes.
There are plenty of real-life heists to be explored in if there's season 2, some of the biggest known heists not even mentioned on the show, especially the infamous Lufthansa heist, which was picked up by Martin Scorceses brought into focus Goodfellas. Including lesser known but significant thefts will also be something Heist fans will be happy about.
