Journey to the West is a TV series adapted from the novel of the same name by Chinese writer Wu Cheng'en made for 6 years. In 2008, the drama was voted as one of the 30 most influential TV series during 30 years of Chinese drama. Statistics are incomplete as of 2014, the series has been replayed more than 3,000 times by TV stations in China, setting the record for the most replayed TV series in the world (not to mention replays in other countries). "Journey to the West" originates from a true story: The monk of the Tang Dynasty Thai Tong named Tran Huyen Trang, at the age of 21, went to India alone to find a teacher. He left from 629 to 645 to return to China, a total of 17 years. When he returned home, he had to use 24 horses to download 657 sets of Buddhist scriptures. That true story is inherently legendary, widely transmitted in folklore and mythological. "Journey to the West" tells the story of Sun Wukong, Tru Ngo Nang and Sa Ngo Tinh supporting Tang Tang to the West (India is to the west of China). The road encountered many difficulties and obstacles, a total of 81 tribulations, and finally passed to the land of the Buddha, bringing the Buddhist scriptures to propagate in the East.
