Khau Pha pass is one of the most winding and steep passes in the country, surpassing the peak of Khau Pha mountain, the highest mountain in Mu Cang Chai area of over 30km. From the view on the Khau Pha pass, visitors can fully admire the whole scenery of immense terraced fields. The Khau Pha pass road has up to two-thirds of a rocky, bumpy road, during the length of the pass, there are several dozen bends. On cloudy days, the pass is especially dangerous for the drivers because the pass has no barriers or any warning signs. The scenery at Khau Pha Pass is most beautiful in September and October, when the terraced fields of Mong people are ripe, brilliant and colorful.
