One day, manga author Shin Karino is greeted by four-year-old Kotarou Satou, his new neighbor, who gives him a box of tissues. In Karino's eyes, Kotarou is an odd child: he speaks very formally, and he lives alone in his apartment—with no parents or relatives showing up. But Kotarou didn't seem to mind, nor did he want to rely on people.
Sympathetic to Kotarou's plight, Karino decides to follow Kotarou to a bathhouse in case something might happen to him and there he understands that the boy is not too different from himself. Gradually, Karino—along with the other residents of the apartment complex—becomes fond of Kotarou and his antics. At the same time, Kotarou himself may have found something like a family in his unique neighbors.
