Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta (born March 28, 1986), better known by her stage name Lady Gaga, is an American singer and songwriter. In addition, she is also an entrepreneur, fashion designer, actress, and social activist. Born and raised in New York City, she briefly attended Convent of the Sacred Heart and attended Collaborative Arts Project 21. She began performing at Manhattan's Lower East Side, and signed signed with Streamline Records in late 2007. Lady Gaga later rose to prominence as a singer with the release of her debut album, The Fame 2008, which received generally positive reviews from critics as well as topped multiple charts around the world, including international number-one singles Just Dance and Poker Face. After embarking on The Fame Ball Tour, she went on to release the 2009 album The Fame Monster, which included three worldwide hits such as Bad Romance, Telephone and Alejandro. The album's success led her to invest in an 18-month tour, The Monster Ball Tour, which went on to become one of the highest-grossing tours of all time.
