Mortal Kombat is an American action fantasy martial arts movie. The film was directed by Simon McQuoid, with writers Greg Russo and Dave Callaham, and developed on a story by Oren Uziel and Russo. The film is based on the video game series of the same name by Ed Boon and John Tobias. The film focuses on exploiting the confrontation between two worlds Earth Realms and Outworld Realms. Instead of launching wars, at the appointed time, the two factions send a group of elite warriors to the Mortal arena to compete, choosing the winner. Over the 9 seasons, the Outer Worlds have all won and if they win in the 10th season, they will gain control of the Underworld.
The main character Cole Young is an old-fashioned boxer who makes a living in the amateur MMA arena. One day, his family is hunted down by Sub Zero, an Outworld fighter with the ability to create snow and ice. Young was rescued by Jax - a member of the Special Force.
