Set in England in 1956, the film tells the story of twenty-three-year-old Colin Clark determined to work in film production, embracing the trends of his highly successful aristocratic and academic family. After graduating from college, Colin Clark went to London to look for work on Laurence Olivier's next production. Hugh Perceval tells Colin that there is nothing for him to do, but Colin decides to wait for Olivier, whom he met at a party.
Olivier and his wife Vivien Leigh finally appear and Vivien encourages Olivier to give Colin the job in the upcoming film The Prince and the Showgirl, starring Marilyn Monroe. Colin's first assignment was to find a place for Marilyn and her husband to stay while they were in England. The paparazzi learn about Marilyn's arrival at Heathrow. Marilyn was accompanied by her husband, business partner, Milton H. Greene and acting coach Paula Giorgberg. At first she was tired of many photographers, but then she felt comfortable at the press conference. Olivier was very disappointed when Marilyn was late. Marilyn claims that Paula sat and helped her when she had trouble with her lines. The crew and other actors admired Marilyn greatly. Marilyn and her husband had an argument, so he left the US to leave her alone.
Lucy notices Colin's growing infatuation for Marilyn and decides to break up with Colin. Colin and Marilyn gradually fell in love, they spent the day together and were given a tour of Windsor Castle by Owen Morshead. One night, when Colin was called in because Marilyn had locked herself in her room, Colin opened the door to her room and they slept together. Marilyn then returned to the set to complete the film.
