Ponyo (2008) is a Japanese animated film directed by Hayao Miyazaki and produced by Studio Ghibli. The film tells the story of a goldfish named Ponyo and a 5-year-old boy named Sosuke. The two meet and become close friends. Ponyo wants to be a girl so she can be with Sosuke, and from there, the adventure begins. Ponyo has received a lot of love from children and adults alike. The film offers a world full of color and magic, where friendship and love can overcome all barriers. The bright plot and the message of love and environmental protection made for a memorable experience. Although Ponyo didn't do quite as well as some of Studio Ghibli's other anime films, it still grossed over $201 million worldwide. The blend of fantasy and reality, along with great visuals and music, makes for a movie worth watching for all audiences.
