An apocalyptic event devastated Japan, leaving nothing but endless sand plains, and a strange rust disease terrorized the ruins of civilization. According to the government, the terrible state of the new world is the result of fungal spores released by the likes of Bisco Akaboshi, labeled as "Man-eating Mushrooms".
But Bisco will beg to differ. In fact, he is a "Mushroom Guardian", determined to discover the legendary "Sabikui" fungus - believed to be the ultimate cure for rust. Joining him on his quest are the giant crab Akutagawa and the kind doctor Milo Nekoyanagi, who is actively searching for a cure for rust poisoning for his sick sister.
