The game was released on June 13, 2014, and has since sold over a million copies. After the success of the original, upgrades called Mudrunner and SnowRunner were released on October 30, 2017.In Spintires, players will control pitiful off-road vehicles, buffalos and cows to overcome muddy terrains to complete goals. The game takes into account a number of attributes such as physics, mud, terrain distortion, as well as driving controls and the day/night cycle. Due to the difficult terrain, the player must consider all conditions and drive accordingly; for example you can't just press “W” on the keyboard to drive straight.
Players can choose between normal and hardcore mode. In Hardcore mode, fuel consumption increases and player charts on the map will not be displayed as road guides as they drive. A small downside is that the game's camera is located outside the vehicle, not the viewport in the cockpit, somewhat reducing the sense of realism and possibly disappointing gamers.
