Set in the small border town of Miradero, a girl named Fortuna "Lucky" Esperanza Navarro Prescott, who has just moved from the city, encounters a wild kiger mustang named Spirit. The horse was captured by wranglers and taken to be "broken" in the Miradero. Luck immediately bonded with the horse, and freed him. Lucky also meets two other girls, Pru Granger and Abigail Stone, who both own horses, Chica Linda, a palomino, and Boomerang, a pinto horse, respectively. They embark on daily adventures across the land.
