The film revolves around the protagonist Tamako Kitashirakawa, the eldest daughter of a family that runs a Mochi cake business. One day, she meets a talking strange bird claiming to be Dera Mochimazzi, who is looking for a bride for the prince of her country.
Due to eating too much mochi, Dera becomes overweight and unable to fly, so she clinging to Tamako's house. Here he witnessed her daily life with friends, family and neighbors. Dera is also the one who learns of Tamako's love affair with Mochizou. Although they both have feelings for each other, they are too shy to open up.
