ContentsTokyo is currently experiencing showers that seem to disrupt the usual rhythm of life of everyone living there. In the midst of this seemingly eternal pouring rain comes runaway high school student Hodaka Morishima, who is struggling to financially support himself—ending up with a job at a small-time publishing house. At the same time, orphan Hina Amano also struggles to find work to support herself and her younger brother.
The fates of the two are intertwined when Hodaka tries to rescue Hina from shady people, deciding to flee together. Later, Hodaka discovers Hina has a strange but amazing power: the ability to call out the sun whenever she prays. Given Tokyo's unusual weather, Hodaka saw the potential of this possibility. He suggests that Hina become a "sunny girl" —someone who will clear the sky for people when they need it most.
