Plot summary:
The film tells the story of Einar Wegener (played by Eddie Redmayne), a famous Danish painter who lives with his wife Gerda Wegener (played by Alicia Vikander) in 1920s Copenhagen. Everything changes when Einar has to play the female role in a painting of his wife, and this sparks the realization that he truly feels like a woman.
These feelings and discoveries about his true nature made Einar decide to undergo a gender change, changing his name to Lili Elbe. Gerda's support and unwavering love accompany Lili on this journey, however, they also face medical challenges and social disapproval.
