The film revolves around the guy Brooks Rattigan (Noah Centineo), who once accepted to take a girl named Celia Lieberman (Laura Marano) to the school prom, came up with an idea to make an app called Stand In. Just using this app, people can pay him to pretend to be his boyfriend, date, chat person... with the style and requirements they desire. Developing the app with his close friend Murph (Odiseas Georgiadis), his Stand In service quickly grew. Around that time, he meets his lightning love Shelby (Camila Mendes) and sets out to find a way to conquer her.
