The Princess Diaries is a 2001 American comedy-romance film directed by Garry Marshall. The film is written by Gina Wendkos based on the novel of the same name by writer Meg Cabot.

The main character in the film is Mia Thermopolis (Anne Hathaway), a 15-year-old girl who has an ugly appearance and is often bullied at her school. She lives with her single mother and has only one friend, Lilly (Heather Matarazzo).

Mia leads a closed life, she is shy but falls in love with Josh Bryant (Erik von Detten) and is mocked by his girlfriend a lot. Life turns a new page when Mia learns that her father is the Prince of the Kingdom of Genovia, he passed away suddenly and she is now the only Princess to inherit the throne. Her paternal grandmother Queen Clarisse Renaldi (Julie Andrews) now wants to restore her niece and begin a radical transformation to make Mia a Princess.

Mia is initially excited about her beauty and noble status, but when her identity as a Princess is revealed, popularity brings trouble that Mia didn't expect. The plots, the transformations of relationships and even the changes of Mia will be film developments not to be missed. Princess Mia also had to choose whether to continue with her noble status or accept to be stripped of her throne to become an ordinary person.
