Atsuta temple, considered to be the most important shrine of the temple in Japan, was founded in the first century BC and is famous for its preserved Imperial insignia, "The Grass Sword" (Kusanagi-no-Tsurugi), one of the three countries. According to Japanese mythology, the original sword belongs to the typhoon God Susanoo but was given to the legendary hero Yamato-Takeru as he set out to conquer the eastern provinces; When his enemies try to kill him by placing long grass on fire, he saves himself by cutting grass with his sword (the name of the temple, Atsuta, meaning "burn "). In the northern part of the forest is the main temple, Hongu, which is surrounded by a walled wall, and to the east is the Treasury, a modern building, containing a large number of artwork including old, modern, pottery, jewelry and traditional masks. Hot tip: With nine million visitors per year, Atsutau Temple is busy, so try your visit time near the opening or closing to avoid the crowd.
