Batman: Venom is the best Batman comic series whose plot takes place several years before Batman: Knightfall in every page of Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight. With this story, Batman could not save a young girl from drowning because he was simply not strong enough.
He then turned to Venom, a drug that made him so addicted that it even prompted him to consider killing Commissioner Gordon just to get another fix. In the end, Bruce locked himself in the Batcave, completely free of his addiction, only to defeat someone addicted to Venom. It's a great plot, but portraying an addicted Bruce isn't something audiences are too eager to see.
