Becoming Jane retells the love story of famous female writer Jane Austen. Her love story was also the inspiration for her to write the classic work Pride and Prejudice. In the film, "American rose" Anne Hathaway transforms into Jane Austen, while James McAvoy plays lawyer Thomas Lefroy - Jane's childhood lover.
The story of the film begins when Jane Austen reaches marriageable age but her family has not yet found a suitable partner for her. Jane has aspirations of becoming a writer, but her mother does not support that dream. One day, the handsome lawyer Thomas Lefroy moved to live in the peaceful countryside where Jane's family resided.
Having heard many bad stories about Thomas and having a bad first meeting, Jane really disliked Thomas, thinking he was a cocky and arrogant person. But after many interactions, they gradually developed feelings for each other. However, their love story is not smooth when faced with status gap and harsh reality.
