FLCL's "surreal" best anime is co-produced by both Studio Gainax and Production I.G, the former company known for its inevitability of anime series adaptations with avant-garde features. FLCL follows a young protagonist named Naota Mandaba in an adult story mixed with various elements.

It sets a unique tone from the beginning of the series, as eccentric Vespa driver Haruhara Haruko raced past Naota on her bike, CPR on him, then sent him flying once more. again with her harp. The action sequence perfectly reflects the nature of the many interactions in the FLCL anime. Sometimes there doesn't seem to be a rhyme or reason for the characters' actions, but they're still interestingly constructed. Not only is it fast paced, on the other hand it comes with compelling visuals and sound design that's ahead of its time.
