Plot summary:
The film's setting takes place in the 2nd century AD, during the Roman Empire. Gladiator tells the story of Maximus Decimus Meridius, a brave and loyal general to Emperor Marcus Aurelius. After the Emperor's death, Maximus was betrayed by Marcus's son, Commodus, who was ambitious to overthrow the throne. Maximus was enslaved and later became a gladiator.
Maximus must fight to survive in the arena of blood and sand. Meanwhile, Commodus became Emperor and tried every way to destroy Maximus. With courage and talent, Maximus became a famous gladiator and was known by the nickname "Spaniard". He leads an uprising of prisoners of war and aims to avenge the death of his wife and children and keep his honor intact.
