The Champloo samurai open up in a town where Fuu, who is working as a tea server, is harassed by the son of the town's corrupt prefect, and Fuu begs him for protection, which he offers in exchange for food. Meanwhile, roninJin, also a newcomer, kills the sheriff's bodyguards when they abuse a farmer, ending in conflict with Mugen when the latter mistakes him for one of the sheriff's men. The fight of the two ends with the destruction of the teahouse. Both were arrested and sentenced to death, but Fuu saved them. The pair try to restart their battle, but when Fuu tosses a coin, they postpone her battle to help her find a sunflower-scented samurai she has been searching for years. She wins the pitching game, and they begin a series of adventures along with Fuu's quest.
