The Queen's Gambit is a television series based on the novel of the same name by Walter Tevis. The story revolves around the emotional journey of Beth Harmon (Anya Taylor-Joy), an orphan girl, a chess prodigy on her way to becoming the world's greatest player.
Since childhood, Beth Harmon had a miserable life. She was imprisoned in an orphanage and deprived of many rights she deserved. When she first started playing chess, she had to use sedatives because of some personal problems. Although her talent was discovered early and developed quickly through reading books about chess, she gradually became addicted to drugs after using it for a long time.
As Beth grew older, she found the freedom and control she desired in this sport. But the young girl also has to face stress and some psychological problems.
The chess genius participates in international tournaments and faces famous opponents. Those were glorious matches when she won, but they also included a lot of suffering due to the negative effects of psychological problems. Throughout the film, viewers witness Beth's career wins and losses and the ups and downs in her life, as well as her battle with addiction and the trauma of losing her mother.
