In The Witch, Anya Taylor-Joy plays the main role of Thomasin, a girl living in the early 17th century in New England. The film begins when Thomasin's family is expelled from the settlement because they do not follow religious laws.
Losing their place to live, Thomasin's family moved to a farm near the jungle to live. However, instead of a peaceful life, they are entangled in strange and spooky events. Over time, family members began to be affected by supernatural powers and fell into a semi-conscious state.
Gradually, Thomasin was suspected of being the cause of everything that happened and had to go through a terrifying journey to learn about the nature of the strange events that regularly occurred. The investigation process is also when Thomasin understands herself, helping her become a witch and join the God-Slayer worshiping group.
The Witch is a scary film with heavy psychological elements, showing the strangeness of life during the Islamic period.
