I’m not much of a business nerd, but there is a businessman that I have a lot of respect for, which is Tim Cook, the current CEO of Apple.

I know the symbolic human of this brand should be Steve Jobs as he has always been acknowledged as a genius by the public in general. Actually, I had never heard of Cook’s name until 2014, when he replaced Steve Jobs to become the company’s CEO. So, I started to browse all the information about him.

In fact, this man is called a logistics figure in business. He began his career at IBM, a multinational technology corporation. After a few changes of jobs in different companies, his final destination was Apple. It was an illogical decision because; firstly, Tim was working for Compaq, the most successful technological company at the time; and secondly, Apple was a sinking ship. The brand didn’t make much profit that year and its whole fate depended on the upcoming product a lot.

When he entered Apple, he turned the situation around. He enforced a termination of factories and warehouses; and contract manufacturers were substituted for them, which was an economic measure to cut the company’s budget. As a result, this strategy also reduced the inventory that Apple had to maintain.

Tim Cook is also a visionary player, for he decided to invest in flash memory cards in 2005, which is one of the key elements when customers buy phones these days. Products like iPad or iPhone were produced with various memory capacities. When they were launched, they had made Apple’s name in the market.

Tim Cook was never in the limelight like Steve Jobs, so the controversies around the question why he was nominated as the CEO were understandable. Needless to say, the revenue that Apple has been earning under his leadership has proved them all.

7 Describe a place you have visited

I want to call myself a hodophile, a travel lover because whenever I have a chance, I’ll hit the road. I have been to many places, in Vietnam and other countries, and now I’d like to talk about the most recent place I’ve set foot in. That is Hakone, a lovely scenic town in Japan.

I went there last spring on a one-week solo trip to Japan. I was recommended this place by a local friend when I was browsing a travelling guide site. She was also the one who accompanied me to Hakone. To get to the city, I had to take a train from Tokyo’s Shinjuku Station and Hakone’s Yumoto Station via Odakyu Railway. Another alternative is to take the train using Japan Railways, but the fare is slightly higher.

Although I already knew about Hakone’s charm, I was still stunned when I got there. From the windows of the train, I could already see the iconic Mount Fuji from afar, which was what I had longed to see. I then met my Japanese friend at Sounzan Station and took the first form of transport, the ropeway, to visit Hakone. Not only did I have a more close-up view of Mount Fuji from the cable car, I also caught a distinct view of the desolate mountainside covered by plumes of smoke in Owakudani. It was actually an active volcanic valley once called Hell Valley.

Then my friend insisted that I try the black eggs, another distinctive thing in Hakone. They are basically chicken eggs but boiled in Owakudani’s natural hot springs, whose water turns the eggshell as black as charcoal, and according to the local lore, eating one of these black eggs adds seven more years to our life. But to be very honest, it tasted like any regular hard-boiled egg to me.

Then, she introduced me to the onsen, which is basically bathing in hot springs but also what Hakone is most well-known for. I had to admit it was indeed a very heavenly experience.

In general, I was totally satisfied with the trip. The experience I had there still lingers until now even though it has already been a year.

8 Describe a place where you go to relax

Personally, I am not keen on sharing my “soul sanctuary” because I like to just keep it to myself but today can be an exception. The place I usually go to recharge my batteries is a cafe overlooking the West Lake called “Lim Coffee”.

To be specific, Lim Coffee is located on Quang Khanh street – a lakeside road of West Lake so from this cafe, I can get a breathtaking view of the beautiful huge WestLake. As a university student with a part-time job, I do not have that much free time; therefore, I can only go there on the evening or on the weekends but that is more than enough to let your hair down.

My chilling style is really simple: just sipping at the tea, having a view of the West Lake and doing whatever I want like watching films, enjoying the music or playing games.

The reason why I choose Lim Coffee is that it is quiet and not overcrowded like other coffee shops in the capital center so this cafe is an ideal place to retreat from the hustle and bustle of the fast-paced life. This is particularly important to me because whenever I feel run-down or dead in the water, I just want to be alone – one of the reasons why I don’t like to share this place as I said in the beginning.

Another reason is so simple refreshing view of West Lake from Lim Coffee, which has been the inspiration for tons of photos in my phones. So that’s all about Lim Coffee – my favorite place to unwind. You can come here too but don’t share with many people because this cafe is the most suitable for being by yourself.

9 Describe a town or a city you want to live in in the future:

In the future, I would like to live in Hanoi, which is also my hometown. Let me give you some information about this city. Hanoi is the capital of Vietnam which is located in the North of the country. It was granted to be the City of Peace in 1999 by UNESCO for the endeavor that Vietnam had fought for peace and independence in wartime. Some remnants from the wars such as Hoa Lo prisons or Imperial Citadel of Thăng Long were conserved to teach the young about the country’s heroic past, and they are also helping to bring home the bacon. To me, those battle scars make the city historical and appreciative.

If you ask me why I want to continue staying in this city, there is more than just 1 reason, but I’ll make it brief. In terms of the job opportunity, I find it faster to seek an occupation here because I have built my own network and this could help my career flourish in the near future. In the long run, it would be beneficial if my children get to live here and study in an urban environment as the schools’ facilities are cutting-edge and most of the top-notch universities are located in Hanoi.

Besides the practical reason, I also let my personal preference affect the decision. You know, there are 4 distinct seasons in Hanoi, and each of them brings typical experiences for the citizens. For example, in fall, you can sense the scent of milk flowers integrating into the cool breeze; or in spring, the drizzle is something that will remind you of the start of the new year. And most importantly, I have my family with me in the city.

10 Describe a law on environmental protection

If I am to talk about a law that would contribute to protecting the environment, I will pick the one that subsidizes nuclear power plants. Specifically, the government would be responsible for providing subsidies to companies involved in constructing and maintaining nuclear power generators.

You may wonder how this is related to safeguarding the environment, but this is one of the most realistic choices any government can opt for, when we’re surrounded by so many suggestions that sound good but aren’t based in reality.

Now, hopefully, if this law goes into effect, it would open the door to the construction of nuclear power plants. And when nuclear power generators are built, the country would be expected to have an alternative method of producing electricity to coal-mining.

Coal is currently the source of the most electricity in the world, but have you ever seen a coal mine? It is extremely dirty and can cause irreparable damage to the environment. Electricity production from coal should be replaced somehow, but solar power and wind power are neither efficient nor developed quickly enough to supplant coal.

We need to look to existing technologies and nuclear energy fits the bill, it’s both clean and cost-effective. Producing electricity from nuclear reactors would phase out the coal industry and prevent any further impact that mining coal inflicts on the environment. It’s why I think this law is necessary.
