ContentsMatsuri Kazamaki and Suzu Kanade are childhood friends, bonded by their ability to see ayakashi—youkai looking for life force to devour. In high school, however, their relationship deteriorated. As Suzu's unrequited feelings grow, so does the difference in their views on ayakashi: Matsuri sees all ayakashi as a threat to his friend, while Suzu is a means of ayakashi—someone who exudes a significant amount of life force compared to the average person—and loves them all despite the risks.
When the two stumble upon a talking white cat named Shirogane, they don't know that it's a four-hundred-year-old ayakashi dubbed "King of Ayakashi." He desperately wants to gain even more power by devouring Suzu, but when Matsuri rushes in to try to save her by sealing Shirogane's powers, ayakashi uses a ninjutsu to turn him into a girl instead!
Matsuri vows to protect Suzu from further harm as her best friend, but he must learn to behave like a girl until his grandfather—a famous feng jutsu exorcism ninja—can neutralize ninjutsu. Meanwhile, Suzu must find his romantic feelings for Matsuri when he is no longer a boy. But when Matsuri adopts the king as his pet, the future of the two friends seems uncertain.
