Bom Jesus do Monte Sanctuary (PORTUGAL)
The most impressive religious reserve in Portugal, Bom Jesus do Monte is located six kilometres east of Braga in a lush park on the western slope of Monte Espinho and remains one of Portugal's most attractive tourist attractions. The ancient chapel with over 600 years old was built in a Baroque style. On the walls of the chapel, paintings of the crucified Jesus event were very carefully described. Connecting the entrance gate to the hilltop church of Bom Jesus is the extraordinary 18th century Escadaria, a monumental staircase constructed of granite and connected by a series of chapels suggesting 14 stations of the Holy Cross. The complex with the 381-feet tall staircase is where the pilgrims will climb with the knees to express their heart.
