Located in the south of Mexico city, between the canals of Xochimico district, a small island called the Isla de las Munecas (Doll Island) attracts many tourists but is associated with a sad story in the past. It is dedicated to the soul of a poor little girl but a tragic fate, dying in special circumstances. Many people believe that the dolls here contain that little girl's soul. It is said that a man, Don Julian Santana Barrera, who lives on the island, detects a drowned little girl emerging in the midst of the Forest canal. Not long after, Barrera found the famous doll nearby. He said that maybe the doll belonged to girls. Barrera picked up dolls and hung up trees as a way of showing respect and comforting bad child souls. However, the old man was always obsessed with the little girl's spirit. Barrera began to hear the whisperings, yelling for the resentment or the footsteps of darkness. To soothe the wandering souls, he began collecting and hanging more dolls on the trees throughout the island. During 50 years, the island is covered by dolls.
