The town of Pripyat is 100 km near the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. The 1986 nuclear disaster forced more than 28,000 people to evacuate the town and turn the land into unearthable wastelands. Unlike other military-like cities that have limited access, leaving Prypiat is not restricted by the time of the disaster. Before the Chernobyl disaster, nuclear power plants were seen as safer than other types of power plants. Initially, the atomic power plant is projected to build the capital Kiev 25 km but the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences has raised the fears of this position too close to the city, thus the location of the factory, along with the construction of the city of Pripyat, was chosen in the present location, about 100 km from Kiev. After the nuclear disaster , the city of Pripyat was evacuated for two days.
