The mummy of the Philippines, also known as the Kabayan mummy, Benguet mummy, or Mummy Ibaloi, is a mummy group found along the mountain slopes of Kabayan, a town in the northern Philippines. They were made from the beginning of the year 2000 BC until the 16th century, when Spain invaded the Philippines. The ritual burial of the Ibaloi was stopped when the Spanish colonists invaded the Philippines 400 years ago. Nevertheless, the mummy caves remained intact until the 19th century where no one was discovered. To date, a few tombs of the Ibaloi have opened publicity to the public. The ancient Ibaloi smoked the dead for months and then buried the graves in the mountains. Mummies can survive for thousands of years. Many people believe that the old Ibaloi knew the exact location 80 sacred caves. They are also the only ones who know how to perform the ritual of the ages to this day.
