The highlight of this mecha anime is to recreate the realistic feel of tokusatsu shows. When a giant hero fights a monster in those shows, it's clear that they are heroes fighting in a model city.
SSSS.Gridman went to extreme lengths to reproduce the same feeling. The kaiju designs look like a person wearing a costume. It takes incredible commitment to replicate both the aesthetic and the direction. Even the mecha designs are perfectly standard in the super sentai sub-genre. Fans were really skeptical about this mecha anime's ability to capture the tokusatsu nature, but it successfully happened.
