With hindsight, The Matrix's first two sequels, The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions, have received some new highs. The Wachowskis' creative ambitions and sublime storytelling were only seen many years later. One thing that hasn't changed, however, is the criticism directed at the worst villain The Architect, creator of the Matrix and ruler of machines. As a symbolic threat, The Architect not only lays down Neo's "destiny" as The One, but also the antithesis of free will. However, he turns out to be a saboteur who makes sequels stop whenever he gets to philosophy. In short, The Architect plays the mastermind role of The Matrix Revolutions and The Matrix Reloaded better on concept than reality.
