Highschool of the Dead can be considered the best zombie anime series to date. It is also very similar to a traditional Western zombie epidemic story, but this does not detract from its appeal and horror.
As the name of Highschool of the Dead suggests, this short series follows five high school students working together to get to safety after their school is invaded by zombies. Highschool of the Dead's fan service can be a bit excessive at times, but its solid character and devotion to actual violence transcend its drawbacks.
