Some people think parents should teach children how to be good members of society. Others believe that school is the best place to learn this.

Discuss both views and give your opinion.

Forming socially responsible individuals is one of the key goals of any society. Some believe that parents are primarily responsible for instilling moral values, while others argue that schools are better equipped for this role. Both views are valid and will be explored in this essay.

Parents play a crucial role in early social development. From a young age, children observe and imitate their parents' behavior, learning lessons about respect, honesty, and empathy. Everyday actions such as saying “please” and “thank you” or showing kindness to others are often taught at home. Moreover, parents can provide consistent emotional support and personalized guidance based on the child’s needs.

However, schools offer structured environments where children interact with diverse peers and learn social norms beyond the family unit. Through group work, discipline policies, and civic education, students learn how to cooperate, follow rules, and resolve conflicts. In many countries, subjects like moral education or citizenship are included in the curriculum to foster ethical behavior and community involvement.

In my opinion, both parents and schools share responsibility in shaping a child’s social character. A cooperative effort between home and school is necessary to ensure consistency and reinforcement of good behavior.
