Trailer Embrace of the Serpent (2015)
Embrace of the Serpent is set in two time periods, the early 20th century and the 1940s, and tells the story of two parallel journeys into the Amazon rainforest with the help of Karamakate - an Amazonian shaman and living person. the last remnant of his tribe.
In the first story, German ethnologist Theodor Koch-Grünberg (Jan Bijvoet) is sick and is searching for a rare plant with medicinal properties. Years later, American botanist Richard Evans Schultes (Brionne Davis) tracks down Koch-Grünberg in the Amazon with the help of Karamakate (Nilbio Torres). Schultes is also searching for the same rare plant as above and hopes to fulfill Koch's wish.
The film weaves two stories together as Karamakate guides explorers through the mysteries of the Amazon. The encounters between the two tribes shed light on the impact of colonialism, exploitation and cultural loss on indigenous communities. Karamakate's reaction to outsiders reflects a conflict between his distrust of them and his desire to preserve his culture.
