Set in the early 20th century, the story follows Percy Fawcett (Charlie Hunnam), a British military officer with a passion for exploration. Although he faced skepticism and ridicule from his colleagues in the Royal Geographical Society, Percy was determined to prove the existence of an advanced civilization in the Amazon.
Percy embarks on many expeditions to the Amazon rainforest with his assistant Henry Costin (Robert Pattinson). He faces countless challenges, including harsh environmental conditions, disease, jungle tribes, and dangerous animals. Despite the difficulties, Percy becomes increasingly convinced that a mysterious ancient city, which he names Z, lies hidden deep in the jungle.
Over the years, Percy's obsession with finding Z has strained his relationship with his family. Digging deeper into Percy's explorations, the film helps viewers contemplate themes of ambition, colonialism and the conflict between scientific discovery and cultural respect.
