Giselle (Amy Adams) is a beautiful and poetic girl in the cheerful animated world of Andalasia, where animals are her talking friends and can be influenced by her singing. She dreams of true love with a prince and builds a statue in his honor with the help of Pip, a chipmunk, and the animals of the forest. When she sings "True Love's Kiss", Prince Edward (James Marsden), a handsome and kind man, hears her voice from the forest and rescues her from a mouse. Impressed by his kindness, Giselle and Edward get married the next day but her destiny changes when the prince's stepmother, Queen Narissa (Susan Sarandon), who is actually a fairy, takes her into the world. a magical portal to "where there is happily ever after" to secure her throne.
Giselle is lost in the real world of New York. She meets Robert Philip (Patrick Dempsey), a divorced lawyer who is taking care of his young daughter, Morgan (Rachel Covey). Feeling moved by her situation, Robert took her home so she could stay for the night. The next morning, he was very angry when Giselle called mice and insects to clean his house, cutting the curtains to make a dress for herself. Nancy (Idina Menzel), Robert's soon-to-be lover, comes in and discovers Giselle accidentally falling on Robert. Giselle was just wearing a towel, so even though Robert tried to explain, Nancy still left angrily. Robert goes to his office with Giselle. Here she cried when she discovered that one of his clients was getting divorced. Afterwards, Robert took Giselle to Central Park. Due to his anger at Giselle, Robert decides to abandon Giselle, but then reconsiders when she gives the money he gave her to an old man. While walking together, Giselle kept asking Robert how he could express his feelings for Nancy and she began singing "That's How You Know". Giselle sends Nancy an apology on Robert's behalf along with tickets to the King and Queen ball. Luckily, Nancy accepts. Meanwhile, Queen Narissa's henchmen Nathaniel (Timothy Spall), Edward and Pip, go to New York to save Giselle. Nathaniel secretly poisoned Giselle with a poisonous apple, but due to Pip's timely warning, he failed. This made Narissa very angry.
