Trailer

Les Misérables is based on the musical of the same name by Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg, inspired by the novel of the same name by Victor Hugo. The film recreates the lives of many characters during the French Revolution and the struggles for love, redemption and freedom.

The plot revolves around Jean Valjean (Hugh Jackman), a man sentenced to 19 years in prison for stealing bread to save a starving baby. After being released, Valjean changed his name and started a new life, becoming a successful businessman. But Inspecteur Javert (Russell Crowe), Valjean's warden in prison, constantly hunts him because he does not believe he has reformed.

Meanwhile, a young woman named Fantine (Anne Hathaway) has to leave her daughter, Cosette (Amanda Seyfried), in an orphanage because she cannot afford to care for her. She worked in harsh environments and eventually became a sex worker to support her daughter. Before dying, Fantine asked Valjean to take care of Cosette and help the baby escape a life of suffering.

With a noble heart, Valjean raised Cosette to be a good person and created a sacred father-daughter relationship. The two lived in seclusion to avoid Javert's pursuit. When the revolutionary period broke out, Cosette and Valjean were involved in many different events related to demanding equal rights for people.

The film follows many characters with distinct destinies during the French Revolution, bringing a message of human love, sacrifice and the fight for justice and freedom.
