The Trial of the Chicago 7 is a film based on true events about the 1969 trial of seven protesters charged with causing a riot at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago.
After protests against the Vietnam War became more violent at the 1968 Democratic National Convention, seven protesters, including Abbie Hoffman (Sacha Baron Cohen), Jerry Rubin (Jeremy Strong), Tom Hayden (Eddie Redmayne) and Bobby Seale (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) are accused of encouraging violence. Faced with charges, the seven men faced a model political trial, in which the police, lawyers and even the courts all showed bias and imposition.
The film focuses on the intense legal battle and the protesters' struggle to protect freedom of speech. Through tense details and excellent performances by the cast, the film recreates the fierce trial, creating a picture of solidarity and steadfastness in the fight for justice and human rights.
